Autumn

Autumn is a 47-year-old mother to a 14-year-old son, balancing the demands of school, work, and family life. She is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration at Southern New Hampshire University, determined to advance her education and career. Facing the challenge of managing multiple responsibilities, Autumn joined H.O.P.E. Inc.'s program, where she received both financial assistance and personal support. This guidance has empowered her to stay on track academically, excel in her studies, and work toward building a stable future for herself and her family. 

Autumn has been deeply rooted in the culinary arts since 2002. After earning her associate degree, she spent over 20 years building a career as a classically trained chef. In 2015, she founded her own catering business, Cold Smoke Catering LLC, which experienced several successful years. However, in 2021, Autumn was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic illness that brought new limitations and forced her to scale back her work. She applied for disability and, during this period, experienced wrongful termination from her part-time job, which had been crucial for maintaining financial stability. 

 Despite these setbacks, Autumn demonstrated resilience by returning to school to pursue further education. She continued to navigate the challenges of low income while being the sole provider for her household, all while striving to build a sustainable career and secure a stable future for her family. 

Autumn's life took an unexpected and devastating turn when she was diagnosed with Lupus. It was more than a health challenge—it was a life-altering moment that shook the foundation of her independence and stability. Determined not to let her illness define her, Autumn returned to college, pouring herself into her studies while battling the daily fatigue, pain, and unpredictability that lupus brings. Yet the financial strain was relentless. As the sole provider for her household, she struggles to make ends meet, taking on small catering jobs and other projects only when her health allows. With her son's father incarcerated, she had no additional support, relying strictly on governmental assistance to cover food and medical needs. 

Each day was a delicate balancing act between managing her illness, supporting her son, and pursuing her dreams, leaving Autumn emotionally and physically drained, but still resolute. Her story is one of quiet courage—a mother determined to rise above illness and hardship, striving to create a stable, hopeful future for her family despite overwhelming odds. 

H.O.P.E. Inc. provided multiple rent payments to ensure housing security, coverage of utility expenses such as GA Power and Clayton County Water Authority bills, and support for transportation and food. Childcare assistance and contributions toward school-related expenses enabled Autumn to focus on her studies and family responsibilities without the constant stress of financial instability. 

 In addition, H.O.P.E. Inc. ensured that her son, Gabriel, could continue participating in sports programs and after-school activities—bringing him joy and a sense of normalcy during difficult times. Autumn reflected on the impact of this support, stating, "Because of your assistance, I was able to remain in school and ultimately complete my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, without having to drop out, as I had in the past. I officially completed my degree on August 1, 2025, graduating with a 3.963 GPA and the highest Latin honor of Summa Cum Laude." 

Through H.O.P.E. Inc.'s assistance, Autumn gained not only financial relief but also emotional encouragement. She shared, "H.O.P.E. Inc. did not just help me survive; they helped me transform. You gave me space to breathe, strength to continue, and just enough hope to see my dreams through." With this support, she has been accepted into the MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University and is planning to launch Healthy Living Food Concepts and Franchises to serve those affected by diabetes, honoring her late mother while contributing to the broader community.

She shared, "There are not enough words to fully express the deep gratitude, humility, and pride I feel as I reflect on the journey my son and I have walked." This support allowed her to keep moving forward, demonstrating resilience and determination in the face of immense adversity.
